For Mom

Do you visit her as much as you should or call her once or twice every week? Mothers give so much to each of us when we are children and as teens and they are valuable when we become parents too. So, why don’t we pay attention to their aches and pains and problems?

Usually when they get old enough for us to notice their infirmities, we are so busy with out lives until their problems are overlooked until an illness or some other problem arises that we can’t ignore and maybe she needs our help with. Sometimes, even those aren’t enough because she is too proud to ask for help, unless it is offered first. Why do we treat our mothers and sometimes our fathers too in this manner?

Because we have grown up and now we are parents and grandparents and time just gets away from us, we seem to not notice the time that we spend away from home. Even when they are asking for us to come visit or to bring our children to see them. They deserve to be able to see their grandchildren too.

Mother’s day is the first in the year that honors one of our parents and then there is father’s day. Why can’t we honor them both no matter what day of the year it is? Just a thought.

Healing…

There are many times that we all need healing in one form or another. Healing from grief and pain in the loss of a dear friend or loved one. Healing from a disease or an accident. Healing from hurtful words or actions which, possibly a loved one, was said to you or done to you. Healing comes to each of us in many forms.

Which one do you need today?

Jesus can bring a healing spirit into your heart and change it from one that is mistrustful and alone to one that sees the good in people and comforts others when they feel down. Many times we feel that we are the ones who need the healing, but when we offer prayers and comfort to someone else we are the ones who get the most benefit. The love of God, which we bring to others through our prayers, works in both directions. It touches the one that we are praying for but it also flows through us and into us to heal us in ways that we don’t even know that we need.

Healing…is something that Jesus did when He was here and He is still doing it today. Through medicine and doctors and through our diet and exercise, we are healed and helped in ways that we didn’t understand could be done. A little change here, a walk for ten minutes or so, eating less red meat and more fish…these are little changes that we can do which will bring healing to us along with prayer.

Healing of our hearts and our souls, that is the very thing which Jesus can do even when we don’t think it is possible. Sometimes it will happen when we just don’t believe it or even when we don’t want it. God has His purposes and He works in our lives to fulfill His purposes in ways that we can’t imagine. Not that He forces us to do something, but the circumstances of our lives will work for His glory and our good…if we allow it to.

Unfortunately, we are the controllers of that part of our lives. By that I mean that we choose whether we will do this or that for God today or tomorrow, God doesn’t force us to follow His directions. He will allow us to fall and fail in our own attempts at doing what WE think is right and when we realize that it isn’t, then He will pick us up and begin again. Just as the potter at his wheel. The re-making and re-molding process isn’t pleasant, nor is it what we would want to experience most of the time, but in His process and His time we will do His will in our lives.

It may be just before the end of our lives, but it will accomplish that which He deems is necessary and glorious for His Kingdom. It will not show the type of glory that our world expects, but to God even a small coin is worth much more than gold when given with the right attitude.

Tell me how he lived….

We each know someone who was an inspiration to us while they lived and in the way they lived, yet somehow when they are gone there are times that we can’t remember. Some remember the good times, some remember the not-so-good times, some remember the smile or the laughter or the way they held their cigarette if they smoked. Many things about those who are important to us, while they still live, they don’t seem so important. But, when we can’t call them or go see them…each little bit is precious…at least to those who loved them. Who will remember how you lived or what you said? Think about your life now and the impact that it will have on those around you…while you live, because once you are gone the imprint and influence that you had in this life will live on.

It is important to remember and never forget the things that we loved about a person that we can’t see anymore, so make your memories good while you can.

How can I say this?

Many people seem to watch and read posts on Facebook, and then some don’t. Some people even pay attention to blog posts, and some find them by accident. Is there anything to say or write which will get people’s attention without pictures of naked women or blood and guts accompanying it?

Life is more than these things. Living is more than this and yet today it seems that many people just can’t get by without it, whatever “it” may be.

God put us here to take care of this world initially and we have really screwed that up in the time that we have been here. Is it possible for us to work our way back into His loving arms and His grace? Can we be forgiven for all of the sinful ways that we live today? The thoughts that we have and the idols which we have created are also causing problems in our world, because we act on them in ways that we shouldn’t.

The answer for the first question is no, we can’t work our way back. God never did abandon us, He provided a way for our forgiveness through Jesus’ sacrifice. We have actually been forgiven for our sins, through Jesus Christ and His crucifixion and resurrection. The only thing that we are in need of doing is to believe in Him and ask His forgiveness and repent of those sins.

Living through this life is more than the stuff that we see and do every day. We are supposed to be better than we are and be more like Jesus. Yet, many people today seem to think that it isn’t their job to be like Jesus, that they can’t do it so they just don’t want to attempt it.

Life is not just Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, or some other form of social media. Life is living every day as if it may be your last day. Doing what you can for someone because you can do it, not in order to get something in return. Loving others like Jesus did is not something that we are able to do on our own, but with His strength and His ways ingrained in us through study of the Bible and prayer..we can be more like Him.

Learn about Him through study of the Bible, not just going to church a few times. Pray about what you read and ask Him to reveal His Wisdom to you so that you can use it in your everyday life. Don’t be a Christian in name only, but all the way down to your heart.

Struggling with life

We all have problems in our lives. Some of them are easy to handle or fix, some of them are not. Life is hard to handle at times. Between school and work, family obligations and other obligations, your life and mine can get pretty hectic at times. What can we do about it?

Not much, unfortunately. Bills have to be paid, groceries and other necessary things need to be taken care of…they are all part and parcel of our lives. In some countries, the struggle which has been going on for millennia has not gotten any better with the passing of time. Just because we live in the twenty-first century doesn’t mean that the world in general is still fifty years behind in terms of technology.

It is true that technology is beginning to catch on and bring some countries and people into a more modern age, but not all of them. Even with new technology, jobs and income all over the world are behind what you might expect for this time in history. Struggle and hardship seems to be the norm more than the exception and some people want that gap to become even wider. Why?

What would making a few richer and many more poorer prove or even accomplish? In most countries it would do nothing less than start an internal conflict like a civil war between those who have or may be perceived to have much and those who don’t. Class warfare. Rising up and striking at the “man in charge” would become a battle cry..a rallying cry for many.

Are you a Christian believer? In truth, Satan is the one who is persecuting you, causing your pain and trouble, causing your financial troubles, he even caused the loved one that you are grieving for to die before their time. YES, Satan and his demons are real and they HATE us! They cause our troubles or they cause us to make mistakes in life which cause our troubles to become worse. The only solution to this is giving your life and your heart to Jesus.

Yes, He is the solution to life because He is the Author of Life eternal. God loves you enough that He sent His Son to die for you and pay your debt so that you can take hold of eternal life. Heaven is only a breath away. Just one heartbeat away from eternity is the way that we all live. Life is not easy, even if you are a Christian but with Jesus walking with you every step of the way it will be bearable.

Jesus told His disciples that they would have trouble in this life but to lean on and depend upon Him and they would overcome the world! We are able to do that too, if we decide to be Christians and live according to God’s principles. They are not hard to do and most, if not all of them, are found in many of the “self-help” books that are out there to empower you.

The authors of those books use different words than those found in the Bible, but the intent and the meaning is the same. Psalms, Proverbs and Ecclesiastes are three books of the Bible which contain more wisdom and knowledge than all of the empowerment books combined. Consider your troubles, your trials and heartache and decide today to hand them over to God. He can and will take care of them and you because He loves you. Seek Him through the Bible and learn about Him from the books referenced above.

His Truth is the Life and the Comforter and the Healer that we need every day. Trust in Him to be your Comforter and Healer today so that you can get your life lined up with His Life!

Praise Him! Because He is AWESOME!

Success in life and living

What would be your definition of success in life? A modest home and a couple of nice cars? A mansion with a Bentley in the garage?

Success in life and living is much more than this, but not what you might think. I am not writing about things, stuff, trinkets, and baubles. I am writing about…Life! Real living, not the kind where you have stuff that other people want and they might steal it from you. I am talking of the kind where you do have something that they want and you freely give it away! Intrigued? Curious?

Some of you who read this may be, others would rather go home with the guy in the Bentley.

The reason for which I am writing is to get your attention. Because God wants your attention. He wants you to repent and become His child. Follow Him, learn about Him through reading the Bible and prayer. Come to Him for strength and healing in your life and then when you know enough about Him, which never truly happens but you will get to a point where you will tell others about Him and give your secret away. People will see that you have joy in your walk and in your everyday living which seems to make you happy and they will want to know how this is possible.

All you have to do is to introduce them to Jesus and His Father, God. Tell everyone who asks how much He means to you. Show them in the Bible where you get your strength and the wisdom to conduct your life. This is the successful life. A life that gives ten percent to a church of your income, then take ten percent for yourself and the other eighty percent is what you live on (pay bills, buy groceries, and stuff or save it for a home).

Life is to be lived abundantly, joyfully, with a feeling that you are truly grateful to be alive today! Frowning all day and griping about the weather or the traffic or something that the government is doing doesn’t do anything but give you ulcers and high blood pressure, why waste your time or your life that way?!

God loves each of us, whether we acknowledge Him or His grace for the day or not. Let Him know that you are thankful for waking up this morning, read His Word and pray about the wisdom in it that He has given you to keep. Thank Him for Jesus’ sacrifice that allows us to come into God’s presence whenever we wish to tell Him about our day or ask for His help in some way. Believe it or not, God is interested in your life. Every little detail of it. Because if He knows about a sparrow falling from the sky, don’t you think He is watching over you too?

Do you want to live?

This is a question that is hardly asked of us in our daily lives. It is one you hear occasionally in movies, which makes it mildly entertaining. What does “life” mean to you? What does “living” mean to you?

Life and living should have the same meaning in our lives every day. But, exactly what kind of life should we all have? The kind that super-star athletes live? The kind that celebrities have with money and fame and all that goes with them? Absolutely not!!

I don’t want a life with all of the problems that fame and that kind of “fortune” brings into your home and your life. Yes, I would like to have a little more money than I have today, but if I were to win a lottery or something like that…I would give most of it away. I would pay bills, build a house with no payments and take care of my aging father in law, but beyond that I would not spend and buy my way into being broke again. I would just give most of the money to worthy causes and to my church.

Living is a process that we all go through. How we live is a reflection of our character. It is that which defines us and makes us who we are. Things and money and houses and cars don’t add anything to your life except stress and more stress. Some of it may bring you a bit of prestige in someone’s viewpoint, but once the money is gone…what then?

Living involves much more than many of us admit to knowing, let alone doing. Living with an eternal goal in mind is real living! This life here will be over far sooner than many people realize and at that point, there won’t be any way of getting back any of what you have lost. The things that you have said or done can’t be undone or unsaid. Just as these words on the Internet are here to stay unless someone creates a worm or program of some kind which wipes out certain undesirable content, the words and actions in your life can’t be fixed just because you want to.

So, how can we live with eternity in mind? By looking forward to a reward which will come when this fleshly shell dies away to reveal the eternal, immortal soul within that will carry on. What reward will your soul receive? Will it be one which welcomes you with love into a life prepared for you in God’s presence? Or, will you refuse the gift which He prepared and offered to you during your life only to be pushed away until next time, until your heart has grown so hard and cold that He isn’t heard from again in your lifetime? Your good deeds, if any, will not help. Neither will sitting in church, refusing to go and ask forgiveness but believing that you are doing your part and God would surely let you in.

If you haven’t accepted Jesus as your Savior and asked His forgiveness for those sins which kept you away from church and from Him, then nothing has changed. You are still a sinner and one who is unrepentant in their sins, thinking themselves to be holy and good but only to the point that the teachers of Jesus’ time were. Clinging to their “law of Moses” and their favored status as God’s chosen people, and yet denying that their Messiah had come to offer them forgiveness and salvation. Dead “life” is what they had, the same as what exists in the church today. Many sit in the pews today all across the world, thinking that they are right with God and that nothing is wrong. Satan has them all fooled into thinking that they are good enough without Jesus and they will end up in hell just as he does one day and wonder what went wrong.

Living with and through Jesus is the only real living, anything other than that is just a false life, one that is temporary and destined to go to the pit of hell.
