Fear, anxiety and depression

These are the “monsters” which young people today have to deal with. But, they aren’t alone. You aren’t alone because many of us older folk also suffer with these same demons, monsters, feelings, whatever you want to call them! We may “deal” with them in different ways from how you handle them, but we do handle them. But, sometimes they are victorious against us too.

I am coming to you as one who has battled with depression and anxiety. I have had feelings which drove me to seek to end my life, but I sought out Jesus and my faith in Him! Even though my “demons” tried to tell me that I wasn’t worthy of His love, I wasn’t good enough to be His child. They would tell me in dreams and in what I call “mind voices” that I should just stop trying to be something that I am not. Give up trying to bring a revival to this community and accept that they don’t want one!

Last summer, I was going through this and I found that by reading the Psalms and praying about my depression every day I was able to find a little more strength every day. Just enough to get me through that day, then do it again tomorrow and the next day until I came out of that “funk” and felt that I was able to raise my head up without feeling that it was just too much to do!

God hasn’t given up on you and you shouldn’t listen to those words which Satan is putting in your mind and your heart! They are lies from Satan and that is all that they are! God LOVES you dearly and compassionately! He hasn’t given up on you and you should not give up on this life that He gave you to live!! Why do I say this? Because it is true and because He does have a purpose for you and your life! I don’t know what your purpose is, but I’d bet that it is something that we haven’t thought of yet!

He made you special for one purpose and that was to be a witness to others who have been or will be in this position tomorrow or maybe a few weeks or months down the road. The fact is that you are the only person who can help someone else in this condition or having these problems! That is your calling!

You may be a singer or a dancer or a basketball player, but to God you are His ambassador to those people who are feeling the same fears and problems that you had until you decided to cling to the only Physician who can help and that is Jesus! Seek Him out in your hurt and your fears and anxiety because He was rejected by all of His countrymen, I think that He could understand your pain. The only ones who didn’t reject Him were His disciples and they numbered only 11 after He was risen.

He can give you the strength that you need to get through the rest of today and tomorrow and the next day…if you will let Him come in and share your life and your heart. You will be a new creation and old ways will pass away because you are changed.

He is special

Children are special to their parents and grandparents, but have you ever wondered how God felt about His Son? He was part of the Trinity of course and God knew that, but Jesus was more than that too. He was:

The seed of the woman in Genesis and after the fall; He was the Passover lamb in Exodus; in Leviticus He was the High Priest; in Numbers He was shown as the water from the rock, as the Fire by night and the Cloud by day; in Deuteronomy He was the “prophet like Moses”; He was typified by Joshua and the Captain of the Lord’s Host in Joshua; in Judges He was the Judge and Lawgiver; in Ruth He was the Kinsman Redeemer….

Jesus was all of these and more. To Mary He was her son and the Son of the Most High. To His disciples He was their Rabbi and Teacher and Master, to us He is our Savior and Lord. We have no counterpart which would equal what Jesus was to God the Father so we can’t say how that relationship was or what it typified

Why do I say that? Because God’s ways are so much higher than ours until we can’t understand His love for a world full of sinners, a love that allowed His Son to give His life to pay the debt for all who would believe in Him and for those who would not. We can’t understand it because we wouldn’t allow our child to die for one person’s sins, even our own! Jesus was and is special because of Who He is and because He is still King of Kings and Lord of Lords!

You can say that you don’t believe in Him if you wish but you are placing yourself in a dangerous place when you do. You can say that you don’t believe that a place like Hades or Hell exists and that is fine, but if you should go there because of your unbelief in Jesus, you have been warned! Not believing in them will not save you from them, but believing in Jesus and accepting Him as your Savior will save you from them.

A wise man once said that “Love heals all wounds.” It is true and it is a fact. Love is the only emotion which doesn’t hurt, the consequences of lost love are the pain and heartache but true love doesn’t hurt. It is true that those words are not in the Bible exactly, but since Jesus is the embodiment of God’s love toward us you can truthfully say that His Love heals all of our problems. I found this quote which supposedly came from an actor that I admire:

12391764_767543386681173_2827549231088575546_nHe experienced losing his wife a few years ago from an accident while skiing. I prayed for him in his sorrow and grief. That kind of loss would’ve hurt me deeply and I am sure it did him as well. The point of this is that the love that comes from God and your heart as well is a healing love, one that can do no harm.

The greatest of these is love is part of a chapter that I will share here. Think on this, pray about it today because in your sorrow and depression, God’s love can heal the wounds and the pain:

If I speak in the tongues[a] of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast,[b] but do not have love, I gain nothing.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror;then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.  (1 Corinthians 13: 1-13)

God’s love never fails, so give Him a chance to prove it to you and He will.

Hopelessness, fear, frustration, anger….

All of us have felt these before, in one form or another. Some people feel them more powerfully because of their situation in life or where they live. Sometimes the reason for these feelings is something that we have been addicted to or something that we are addicted to. The main reason that I am writing this is to bring our realization of their existence into the open and show it for what it is…each of these is caused by and brought on by spirits who serve Satan and his demons. We have to live on this Earth for a time and this plane of existence is the same realm that he has as his kingdom for a time. He knows that this time is growing shorter, especially now, and the violence and mayhem that are all over the world is the evidence of his frustration and anger, not so much at God but directed at us because we are each made in the likeness of God.

God considers us as His children, whether we have claimed that as our own existence and future by accepting Jesus as our Savior or not. We are His creation and He knows which of us will accept the gift of grace that is offered and which of us will not accept it. We are not forced to accept it because you cannot force a person to love you and accept a gift from you! The lives that we lead today and every day are ones that we decide which side of the aisle we will sit on. We might sit on the side with Satan and lead a life that we do whatever we feel like doing and damn the consequences, or we may choose to realize that our life would be better if we served Jesus and asked Him to give us the strength to get through our pain. What pain you may ask? When you leave the side of your “friends” who had helped you get into the sins that you find yourself in, you will feel pain of separation and fear, you will also feel like you have let them down by not going with them.

The places and things that you were doing before Jesus came into your life are still going to tempt you, as will your friends, but with time and strength from Him you can overcome those feelings and the temptation to do what they are doing and go where they go. Yes, you will fail to stop saying things that a child of God shouldn’t say. Yes, you will stumble and go back but that doesn’t mean that you have lost anything, it just means that you need to get deeper into God’s Word and prayer every day! As we all need to do, we need to draw closer to Him by reading and studying His Word. We are loved by the Creator, what better reason do you need to come close to God?

All of your fear, frustration and hopelessness will go away when you become His child and draw near to Him. It may not happen immediately, but as you get closer to Him and He draws closer to you, those feelings will lessen and go away eventually.

Days, hours, minutes and seconds….

Our lives are measured by these as well as by years and decades, yet many people get hung up on their age and how they look or feel. I wake up in the morning, some days with pain and sometimes without, but if I worried about my age or the way that I feel…what good would that do me? I can’t change any of it, they don’t have a cure for arthritis of any kind, my balance cannot be restored as it was unless God heals me, so why should I worry? Jesus told His disciples not to worry because it was pointless, not the exact quote I know but you get the point.

You have likely heard it from family and friends, that there isn’t anything that you can accomplish by worry so just don’t! In the world that we live in, that is far easier said than done! God does love you, saint or sinner doesn’t matter, and by saint I don’t mean without sin I just mean that you have given your heart and life to Jesus. We are, all of us, sinners saved by the grace and mercy of God. What you or I choose to do with our position and our calling in Jesus will only determine our reward in Heaven. Your works on this Earth and this life don’t pave the road to get you there, Jesus did all that was necessary for your salvation.

The only part that we can play is to let others know about Him and the grace afforded to us through Him. Tell someone how Jesus has touched your life, in what way, show them the path to take to meet Him if they will follow. Time is growing short and we must be doing God’s work while we can. Worry only hinders your witness and your daily walk with Jesus and since you can’t have an impact on your situation in life, why not just give the problem to the One Who can do something about it?

Many need to listen to this wisdom

The one you feedToday, our culture tries to feed the one that causes all of the trouble and kill the one that wants to calm things down. Why is that? What good will that do other than causing more problems and hatred?

Life is part of this equation and living it means that we should be trying to encourage the good wolf and either lock up or kill the bad one. Our society and the culture that we live in is doing it the other way around and all that is going to do is make things worse.

Love wins in the end, so why fight it? God’s Love, not the kind that our Supreme court is pushing.

What the rest of the world will do

follow ChristThis picture and the caption which goes with it says it all. If we don’t teach our children about Jesus Christ and tell them of His love for them and pray with them, then the world and their teachers in school won’t do it. They would rather teach them alternative ways of getting to Heaven when there is only ONE way and that is through belief in Jesus Christ! None of the religions that are on the stage today that you see in the news or on TV will get you into Heaven except your belief in Jesus Christ and your submission to Him by asking Him to come into your heart and your life and change you.

When that happens, you are a new creation! You are a born-again child of God! There is no wondering if or maybe I am saved, you just are.

God loves you and has loved you since before the world was created by Him. He knew exactly what was going to happen, who was going to fall, the date that it would happen on, the day you and I were born and He is the only one Who knows when you and I will die. Many times people wonder about their life and how it would turn out one way or another. The best part of being a child of God is that your life, if you determine to follow Him every day, can be a joyous life! It may not be one filled with lots of money and fame, but you won’t go hungry. If God takes care of the birds of the air and the grass in the field, He will take care of you.

The rest of the world will chase after money or power, fame or fortune or both or maybe even all of them at once. But, what will all of those things do for you if you are diagnosed with cancer or have a heart attack? Money can pay your bills and get the best doctors, power can aid you in your recovery to an extent, but if the cancer is terminal and there is no treatment which will send it into remission, what then? God is the only One who could heal your heart of its emptiness and heal the cancer too. He may choose to do so by bringing you into eternity, but if you have accepted Him as Savior, then you will be whole and free of pain and disease forever! Money can’t do that, neither can fame or power and you certainly can’t take any of that with you when you die.

Your salvation may have an effect on your family if you do it before you die so they can see it. That is the only time you will have to make that change in your life, before you die. Because once you take your last breath here, you will be there to give account of your life and your choices in that life. Make sure your choices are made before your last breath, preferably long before so that you can show others that Jesus is the Way to eternal life. Even if it is only one day or two, it could truly make a difference in someone else’s life and then they might make a difference too. Your life and your example can touch many people so make the change a good one and follow Jesus.

What is happening in our country?

Has anyone noticed? Does anyone in America care about what is happening here? I am not blasting equality between gays or straight people or between the so-called “races”. What I am talking about is that we are losing our freedom in the very country that has been the light of the world as far as freedom was concerned. Now, one by one we are beginning to lose our freedoms a little bit at a time and it seems that nobody is noticing. This is something that has been foretold, whether you believe it or not. This is the part of time where things are getting worse, from the wars and problems and real troubles and it is happening right now!

People seem to not pay attention to the Bible and the parts of it which prophesied about this time and I don’t understand it. Likely it is because there are so many people don’t believe in God let alone the Bible which is His Word! This blog is about living well and successful and God wants you to be that way and being the person that He wants you to be is the best way to do it! Every part of your life, good or bad, regardless of how bad your life is or was, it can be far better with Jesus in it!

I have told my congregation before about this very thing, but it is so much more than that. People think that Christians and going to church is the way to go but it’s not. Yes being a Christian is great because you are in a relationship with Jesus, the Son of God! Thinking that you are a Christian because you went to church or because you go to church and you look the part, that doesn’t work at all! Going to church or to a Temple or some other worship house is not the answer at all! That building is not going to fix anything with your soul, only a relationship with Jesus Christ can do that!

The relationship which you have to decide to get into if you feel the call of the Spirit is the only real fix for the problems which we all have. It is true that you aren’t required to make a commitment to Christ, it isn’t mandatory and nobody is going to take your head with a sword if you don’t. But…if you choose not to do it, then your life won’t change to become the life that God knows you can have, the life that you should have in Jesus. Having a relationship with Him is the cure for many of our problems in this world, not the courts, not the government, not the drugs and alcohol that many people turn to when their lives are messed up. The cure for our problems and the hope of our future is in Jesus Christ and no other!

Time and tenderness

Have we come so far in our struggle to understand each other or not far enough? Instead of coming together, it seems that the time and the process of repairing our differences has driven a wedge between us. Is it because there are many who don’t want the rift repaired? I have thought that for the past fifty years or so, America and the people living here were supposed to be taking Dr. King’s advice and his struggle to heart? But it seems that instead of growing into a society which accepts each other based on our character rather than our skin color, it is our cultural differences which are driving our society apart. We are heading in the wrong direction concerning our relationships with each other.

Many people talk about the racial problem in the world and in America. It is not a racial problem! It is a cultural problem. When the people of Earth split up because of their language differences at the tower of Babel, we all spoke the same language and our cultures weren’t so different at that time. Now, we have developed many different cultures and religions, different ways of dressing and talking, all kinds of differences from the outside, but we are all Homo Sapiens….mankind.

Our racial differences today seems to mean our different cultural heritage and the appearances that go along with that today. We are all of the human race. Culturally we are all different in many thousands or even millions of ways. We have different beliefs that we cling to in times of trouble. We have different dress and music preferences than “those other people”.

But, when you get down to the DNA of us, all of us, there is very little difference. Two arms, two legs, two ears, one mouth and two eyes, these are the characteristics of a being that is supposed to listen more, see and take notice of more of the injustices in the world, go out and do more with your arms and legs. If you are able to go on a mission trip then do it! We are to be Christ’s eyes and hands and feet in the world so that people can see Him through us and our actions. If your life and your actions don’t reflect Jesus’ attributes, then you need to repent and come back to Him, get into His Word and truly follow Him.

When you speak you should speak in such a way as to bring wisdom into a situation instead of making it worse with accusations and baiting people into actions which cause more problems than they fix. That is why we have only one mouth and two ears, we are supposed to listen twice as much as we speak. Every person needs to hear the gospel of Jesus, whether it is through a sermon in a church or from a blog on the Internet like this one. I pray that you will consider this in your life just as I try to do in mine.

In the gospels, Jesus’ words were powerful but not inflammatory. He told those who weren’t listening to Him exactly why they weren’t listening and suggested what they should do about it. Take His words into your life and heart so that you can use them in all of your situations, regardless of what kind of situation it might be. Why? Because if we don’t, our world is going to get to a place spiritually that is even worse than it is today! Jesus gave us the power of His name and we can use it, IF we belong to Him and claim Him as our Savior. Believe in Him, come to love Him through the reading and study of His Word, pray to Him in the morning and at night. Listen with your spiritual ears and your heart so that you will know what He says and when He says it.

Take the gospel to all of the world where you work and live and elsewhere. Time grows short, seek Him and be watchful for He is coming back!

Depression, a thief which steals your joy!

I have been staying in God’s Word lately, every day, because the spirit of depression is trying to come back into my life, into my head, and I don’t want it there! God’s Word is truly like a two-edged sword because it cuts out what Satan tries to put into your life, if you will let it. God loves us and He doesn’t want us to live a life defeated and down, depressed because of whatever Satan wants to saddle you with at the time. I am not saying that you will live a life of wealth and health and prosperity like some “preachers”, but God doesn’t want to leave you in the ditch either.

Jesus came so that we could live an abundant life in Him and through Him and it is up to us to hear His call on our lives, and decide to follow Him…to ask Him into our lives. Don’t walk away when you know that it is Jesus calling to you! You may not wake up tomorrow and tonight may be your only chance to come to know Him. It doesn’t matter whether you are young or old, Jesus takes you as you are and transforms your life and you into the person that He knows you can be!

Don’t let Satan have a laugh at your expense, cling to Jesus and ask Him to give you the strength to fight back the “bad days” of depression. He will do it and you will be better because of Him.
