Freedom, self-determination, choices = ?

In our history books, especially the ones taught from today, United States history is entirely different from what really happened. So, how did we get to the point of being a nation which is hated and despised in the world and at home? Why are we hated and despised at home and abroad? Are the people who hate us at home the same as the people who hate us in other countries? Maybe not ethnically or ideologically but philosophically, yes they are.

Our country, America, was founded on principles which come from God’s Word and that is one of the main reasons that many people around the world hate us. Not because we have a capitalist form of living and livelihood, but because of our faith in Jesus mostly. If this country had been founded by people who wanted to create the largest Muslim nation in the world, there would be no problem. It is our faith in God and His Son, Jesus which sets us and our nation at odds with every nation in the world except for Israel.

God ordained their existence and the land that they live in to be theirs and for them to be the people and the culture that they are and have been for about four thousand years! Our country was founded by people who were escaping religious persecution from their country to start a new life in a new country. Yes, there have been people in this country and others who have exploited people, both white and non-white, for different reasons. Some have even used the Bible to justify their actions and make themselves feel better while doing it.

But…America has also been an ideal, an idea that many people aspire toward, a standard to strive for, just as living up to the standard of Jesus’ life is something which most Christians try to live up to. Granted, we can’t live lives that are perfectly sinless but we can strive toward that goal so that  others can see us trying to do it.

Yes, America has stumbled and made some mistakes as a country, Christians stumble and fall too but we all have to get up and keep going…keep trying to do better, be better than our parents were. Is it possible? Yes, as long as we don’t push God completely out of our lives or out of our country!

The ideals that made this country great are not dead and the idea of America being a great country is not dead yet. Just as being a Christian is not an easy task nor a simple one, being an American is a choice as well. Working to make this country and our own lives better is something that we all should and need to do. Seeking the strength that we get from our relationship with Jesus is the way to be a Christian, one that is at least striving to be more like Jesus instead of tearing down the ideal, the idea of Jesus and Who He is.

Get into God’s Word and study it, read it, learn from it, because if we don’t do at least what the early Americans did by using His Wisdom in our lives and in our country’s government, then we might just need to open our borders, disband the military and all of the government offices and just shut down the government entirely. What will we have then? I don’t know, but I wouldn’t want to live here any more.

Death and depression

Every day we all come into contact with the death of people, either in the news or a family member, sometimes even a friend. So how do you deal with the loss? How do you deal with the feelings of inadequate time to tell someone how you felt?

How can you handle the depression and loneliness that follows a loss like this? Many people can’t handle it. Handling it means that you can overcome it or even that you can get over it, but you can’t. Death, especially the death of a child or a close family member can almost paralyze you emotionally and physically. This can lead to more depression, and anger at yourself for not feeling what you want to feel or need to feel. The that anger turns on you and causes you pain because it adds to the depression and the circle begins again.

How can you handle these issues in life? Can you handle it alone? The answer is, no you can’t handle it, especially not alone!

So, what do I suggest that you do? First, seek out a partner, someone who you trust and that you can talk to. It doesn’t have to be a counsellor, but it can be a pastor or even just a good friend. The feelings that come to the surface at the time that you lose someone close to you are feelings that you may never have felt before. Pain, loss, fear, anger, and also numbness. You feel the numbness, the lack of feeling, the feeling that nothing matters and then comes the anger at being left to deal with this pain and loss. This is the time that you have to search out someone who can help you.

If you have spent much time in church during your life, then it is time to seek out God through a session with your pastor. You don’t have to tell him or her everything on the first visit, but seek them out and then seek out Jesus. If you already know Him as your Savior, great! He is there with you, comforting you through His Word. Read some of the Psalms, especially fifty-one and twenty-three. There is comfort in God’s Word, there is also healing. The Psalms got me through a time of depression, where I was considering suicide for no reason at all, that I could see or even feel. Yes, God can help, but only if you let Him and ask Him to.

Seek Him out, because He already knows where you are. 🙂

Things to do

What do you have on your plate today? Probably too many things like the rest of us I would imagine. Do you feel as I do on some days? Too few hours in the day to get everything done or maybe you have said yes to too many projects and now they are piling up?

I try not to do this, although some days it seems that my mood swings tend to make me feel as if I have too much to do and not nearly enough energy or time to do them. Depression can do this and it seems to wake up and enter your life at the most inopportune times. Of course we can’t schedule our feelings or how we deal with them, but we can rely on the One Who can help.

Is there something that you have been putting off? Something which is important and really would help in the long run, but when you think of it you really don’t feel like doing it? I have. My room where the computer and most of my other junk is a mess. I need to clear out about seventy percent of the “junk” that is in this room. But, every time that I consider doing it…for some reason, I get depressed.

Then, of course, I don’t feel like doing it! When that episode is over, then I get depressed because I didn’t get it done! What can I do to fix this? Right now, I am not really sure. You know, when this happens each of us looks at it very differently. Some of us will attack the room, throwing stuff out left and right, in order to finish it. Some will just pack it all away or take it to a dumpster just to get rid of it, which sounds like a good idea by the way!

Many days, I have issues like this and I can’t fix it! I can’t find the one thing which would take care of the problem that is inside my mind…that is bothering me the most. It is when these days come that I just want to scream! So, what can I do to fix this? Take a cue from the ant. When a pile of sand gets in the way, ants will pick up a grain at a time and each one carries it away. Where? I don’t know, but the point is that each one of them has a job to do, and they do it, and they keep doing it until the pile of sand is gone.

It is the same with our problems, no matter how big or cumbersome they may be, if we tackle them a little bit at a time then eventually the problem will be solved. Like, for instance, saving money or paying bills off! One dollar at a time, one payment at a time and eventually there is a pile of money saved up and at least one bill has been paid. Then, add the amount that you paid to the pile, and begin paying off another bill. Save, pay off, repeat as needed until the problem is solved!

Give it a try! I might even take my own advice and see how it goes. It should work well because it at least sounds good, hey?

Many opportunities

We all have many opportunities to make money or to leave a legacy for our family and friends, but do we take advantage of them? The previous post pointed to something which I believe will help, but very few people seem to be interested in it. Everyone it seems is looking for an easy way to make money or a “living wage”, yet nobody wants to work to get it. This also falls in line with our desire to feel better about ourselves and our spiritual relationships too. The only real gift that we have all been given is the gift of grace from God through Jesus so that we can be forgiven of our sinful behavior in life and start fresh and new! This has been preached to thousands of people for the past two millennia or so, yet there are only a quarter of the world’s population who seem to embrace it.

It is the same with medical or even mental treatments, there are cures for most diseases yet many don’t seek those cures until it is almost too late. In the case of mental illness, sometimes people cure themselves by suicide which is a very permanent cure, but one which you can’t live with.

Your life and mine are very different. Some of us lead a life with much to do on a daily basis, and some don’t. Some of you have jobs and responsibilities outside the home, so there are always things getting in your way of truly living a life of purpose. Will you decide on a life of meaning and purpose or will you just keep to your routine, going with the flow of traffic until it is time to find something else or until you retire? Consider stepping outside your box, your comfort zone and look for something that may just give you a purpose and meaning in your life. What have you got to lose except time?

I just started something

I am not exactly sure what yet, but if this works the way it is reported to work we may all be better off in the future. I know, it sounds like a pitch for a get-rich quick scheme, but all you have to do is believe.

God does take care of those who follow Him, spiritually and physically, and yet what about our finances? He cares about our livelihood and our well-being too, so why not do something that will enhance that as well?

Go to this site and check out the links there. It couldn’t hurt and it might just enhance our lives while we are serving God too.

Giving thanks for the day

I don’t know if many of you have ever noticed the way the animals in nature give thanks for their day, but I saw this picture on the web and it shows just how much even the animal world acknowledges our Creator. Think about it while you look at this:

smiling-fox “Thank you, Lord, for another day and for the provisions it brings.”

Thank you for taking note of my site and I pray that all of you have a blessed day and a productive week ahead.

Understanding…do we?

There are so many people talking today about a lack of understanding in our country, our culture and in the world but does anyone really understand what is going on behind the scenes or even in front of them these days? Some people claim to know what is going on because they watch the news and read some of it in newspapers or on the Internet, but do they really know what is going on? We all know or have heard from the biased news/media outlets whichever side of the “news” that they are promoting, but is that REALLY what is happening or is there something more going on behind the scenes that we aren’t being told?

For decades there have been hushed up plots or happenings which have either not been reported or reported as something else. This is just the way government works, no matter whether it is a democracy ,a theocracy or even in a socialist country. The world is different from the one that most of us grew up in, with the exception of the generation that is still under twenty. The ‘Net generation has never known a day without information of some kind being available twenty-four hours every day, whether they are at home or away.

Whether that information is the actual truth or not is suspect, because contrary to popular belief you can’t trust everything that is published on the Internet especially when it comes to news. Today, you can’t trust the national media either because they have an agenda too! So who can you really trust?

Jesus! The understanding and purpose that giving your heart and life to Him will empower you to get through your depression, your hard times, your bad days! He can give you the peace that you have been searching for all of your life. Yes, there are many people who are saying today, “Christianity is just a crutch for people who don’t want to deal with reality”. Well, God’s Word says that the world and all of its wonderful “stuff” is going to go away one day. He is going to make it all new again, and those who have not given their hearts to Jesus won’t be around to see it.

The Internet has many faces and facets, and many of these are very dangerous. The information and the things that are being taught in schools today is also suspect because most of it has been re-written to follow a certain “standard”, and that standard is not what was taught to your grandparents and great-grandparents. Truth today has been manipulated and massaged until it is no longer recognizable as what should be taught or preached to people, it is made into “politically correct” pieces so that nobody gets offended.

By the time the real truth is discovered it will be too late to do anything about the damage that it has caused in our world. Look to God’s Word, read it, pray about it because it is the Truth! Jesus did exist and He is coming again. He told His disciples that the end times would “be as it was in the days of Noah”, we are seeing the lawlessness and war now as it was happening in Noah’s day. Mankind has gone so far down the road away from God, until most can’t see or even find the way back to Him. The time is coming soon that people have dreaded for decades, the time spoken of in the book of Revelation.

Please, if you have felt a call in your heart, in your soul that you recognize as one from the Spirit…answer it and give your life to Jesus and allow Him to give your life back to you. He died for us all, no matter who you are or where you live, so please come to Him.

In His Service.
