A fresh start

We have a new year to work with and dream through, so what do we do now? What should we do? It depends on the kind of business that you are involved in or really the kind of life that you want to live. So, what do you think that you should do this year? Have you thought about running your business in such a way that would be acceptable to your grandfather or to Jesus Himself.

How could I do something like that? I mean, being acceptable to Jesus is a fairly high calling isn’t it? Not really, if you look at the way that He told His disciples to conduct their lives. Giving of yourself without expecting much in return, conduct your business and its practices in the way that you would like to be treated, don’t charge for your services depending on the customer’s financial ability to pay.

Of course, by following these guidelines you may not become wealthy, at least according to the standards of the world around you. But, you will be satisfied in your spirit and if you follow the principles of the book of Proverbs and the principles which Jesus taught, then your treasure and your wealth will be gathered in Heaven. God may reward you while you are here on Earth, but if He doesn’t then you will still be better off than you would be if you didn’t run your business by His standards.

Your character and what you live by in your everyday life will show through in your business, regardless of how you may want to do your business. If your character is governed by your walk with and belief in Jesus, then so will your business be. If your character has not been molded by Christian principles and you don’t walk with Jesus, then your business and your life won’t be either.

These are parts of your life that cannot be separated. I am not being or even trying to be mean or indifferent, it is just the facts. Your life and your business are inseparable from the character that is present in your life, whatever it may be. This is not a part of life or business that can be learned or taught, it is a part of you that has to be learned from God’s Word. I know that I just said that it can’t be learned, but I mean that your character won’t change because of something that you get in school, it changes because of a relationship with God.

I know that many people don’t want to believe in God or “have an angel on their shoulder” telling them what to do and what not to do. That is not how it works anyway. Business and life follow the same paths, those which are based, at least in part, on how you want to be treated everyday tend to be more successful. Those which are based on greed and trying to get as much as possible without regard to the value of the product or its value to your customers, will ultimately fail. They might be successful for a while, but in the long run they will fail.

Think about it.
